Alexander Lederer

Dipl.-Chem., Dr. rer. nat., – European Patent Attorney

Dr. Alexander Lederer received his doctoral degree in organic chemistry from the University of Heidelberg in 2001. His studies focused on the potential exploitation of specific carbanionic-mediated insertions in chemical synthesis.Thereafter, he completed a post doctorate at the University of Zurich with focus on design and synthesis of peptidic molecules with antimicrobial activity and peptidomimetics having GPCR modulating activities. Between 2005 and 2007 he continued working on the design, synthesis and scale-up of antimicrobials including murepavadin, CXCR4 inhibitors including balixafortide, and elastase inhibitors including lonodelestat at Polyphor AG, Allschwil. After joining the company’s IP and contract management department he successfully passed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) in 2015 to become a European Patent Attorney. Between 2018 and 2023 he led the IP department as Head IP with full responsibility for shaping and managing the global patent and trademark portfolio of Polyphor and Spexis, respectively, including capture of new inventions, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, patent life cycle management, assessment of regulatory-related forms of IP protection, IP due diligences for licensing or asset purchase opportunities and reviews of documents with IP implications.

Alexander is author/co-author of research articles in several peer-reviewed journals including Science and Nature and mentioned as inventor on several patent applications and patents.

He is a member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office.

Alexander is specialized in the fields of organic chemistry, pharmaceutical compounds including small molecules, peptides, peptidomimetics and macrocyclic compounds as well as certain therapeutic areas like infectious diseases, immune-oncology, and rare diseases.
